A Career Rooted in Connection

Dr Lisa Champion

PhD, Counsellor, Psychotherapist, Supervisor & Educator

My professional life began in the field of exercise science. For many years, I worked as a fitness professional and exercise therapist, helping people recover from injury, pain, and physical limitation. During that time, I came to see how deeply our emotional world is tied to our physical experience – how challenges in one part of life ripple through the whole person.

That realisation changed the course of my career. I wanted to support people not only in their physical recovery, but in all aspects of their growth and healing. So I began studying counselling and psychotherapy, and I’ve never looked back.

My Approach

My work draws on emotion-focused, somatic, and phenomenological approaches.

I’ve now spent more than thirteen years in private practice, working with individuals, couples, and athletes from all walks of life. My work draws on emotion-focused, somatic, and phenomenological approaches, which means we pay attention not just to thoughts and feelings, but also to what’s happening in the body and in lived experience.

I aim to create a safe, collaborative space where you can slow down, notice yourself more deeply, and find clarity about what’s happening in your life and your relationships. Whether you are seeking individual or couple support or professional growth, the process is one of reflection, curiosity, and connection.

Supervision

In addition to my therapeutic work, I’m passionate about supervision – both clinical and professional.

I offer clinical supervision for psychotherapists and counsellors, and professional supervision for people in caring and service-based roles such as ministry, healthcare, education, and leadership.

Supervision, for me, is a space of inquiry and compassion. It’s where we can explore your professional experiences, your questions, and the emotional texture of your work – so you can continue to develop confidence, perspective, authenticity, and wisdom in what you do.

Qualifications & Professional Affiliations

Learning has always been a central part of my life. I continue to attend workshops, conferences, and reflective groups to ensure my work remains contemporary and thoughtful.
